ProPanel for iOS

ProPanel Overview and Requirements:

ProPanel is an application that is designed to run on Apple® iOS devices (such as iPad®, iPhone® and iPod Touch® devices). This application communicates with Pro Control’s ProLink.z control processor to provide full control of your Pro Control system right from your Apple® device. The ProPanel application is designed to run on LAN and WAN networks giving full control and two-way feedback from anywhere in the world with Internet access. A license is required for every system file with an Apple® device in order to communicate. Licenses are purchased directly through Pro Control Studio programming software, select distributors, and the dealer portion of our website.

Auto-rotation is enabled without additional programming, by featuring two panes; one for sources or activities that rotates from the left in landscape orientation, and to the top in portrait mode, and a main control pane that rotates in its entirety as the orientation is changed.

Software Requirements:

Pro Control Studio programming software version 1.1 or higher for Apple® iOS devices.

ProLink.z firmware version 1.1 or higher is required for ProPanel for iOS.

NOTE: To check the current version of firmware on your processor, connect the programming cable to the ProLink.z processor, open Pro Control Studio, and select the Download button from the top toolbar. The resulting Download window will display the current firmware version, and provide an update option.

Hardware Requirements:

• ProPanel is programmed using Pro Control Studio® on a PC based computer running Windows XP or higher .

• Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod touch device.

• Pro Control ProLink.z control processor.

Network Requirements:

Apple® iOS devices used for local control must be connected to the same Ethernet network as the ProLink.z control processor.

Apple® iOS devices used for control from a remote location must have an Internet connection.

Use of the ProPanel from a remote location requires Internet access for the ProLink.z processor with a static IP address from the Internet Service Provider (ISP). If a static IP address is not possible, then a dynamic DNS service will need to be used.

Licensing Requirements:

A license is required for each processor using an Apple® iOS device.

Licenses are available in quantities of 1, 2, or 5 and can be used for all Apple® devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone)

ProPanel licenses are generated for a specific ProLink.z processor MAC address. Every ProLink.z processor has a unique MAC address and therefore licenses are not transferable to another processor. No refunds, exchanges or license transfers to another processor are allowed.

A ProPanel license will need to be purchased and activated for a processor. This is a two-step process that involves purchasing a license code and activating this license code on the processor. Licenses are available in 1, 2, and 5 device connections allowed. Meaning a single, 5 license code may support up to 5 Apple devices connected to a single processor at once. Two and Five connection licenses can only be activated on a single processor and may not be split up across multiple processors. You may also combine multiple licenses up to a total of 10.

Pro Control Studio Programming:

After adding a ProLink.z processor to the system, add an iPad or iPhone device to the system. The iOS devices are added in the same manner as Pro Control remotes and processors, via the ‘Add’ button in the ‘Pro Control Devices’ section of Pro Control Studio.

Adding ProPanel Licenses:

In the ‘Pro Control Devices’ section of Pro Control Studio, ProPanel licenses may be purchased. Select the ‘ProPanel License’ button.

Select ‘Add’ from the resulting window.

Choose the desired purchase option, or enter a license code. If a purchase is made, a checkout process will ensue to allow license purchases with a credit card. Fill out the requested contact information and confirm your order.

Once purchased, you will receive two emails, one confirming your purchase as a receipt and the second containing your license # in the format xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. If you purchased the license through PCS, the code will automatically be placed in your system file.

Activating a License:

In order to connect to a processor, you will have to activate the license code while connected to the internet.

If you have a readily available internet connection on site, the activation will occur automatically the first time you download to the processor. If you do not have an internet connection on site you will have to activate the code for the processor prior to installation in order establish a connection to the processor. Double check the MAC address you are activating the license on, as this cannot be changed.

Adding Pages:

As controlled devices are added to the system, Pro Control Studio will suggest pages for the ProPanel.

These pages will be auto-programmed by Pro Control Studio.

To edit the ProPanel interface, highlight the desired iPad or iPhone, and select the ‘Edit’ button in the Pro Control Devices section of Pro Control Studio.

At the left of Pro Control Studio, icons are automatically placed for the selected Controlled Devices and activities. If additional source buttons are desired, they may be dragged in this pane from the Images library. All icons are automatically centered in the sources panel on the ProPanel application at runtime. These buttons may be programmed as needed.

The ProPanel app will place the sources in a scrollable panel to allow source and activity selection by the user.

The programmer may change or remove the background images from this Source pane by selecting the ‘Background’ tab. This will display the default background images for the portrait and landscape orientations. Instead of images, a solid color background may be used if desired. The title of the pane may be edited here also.

At the center of the programming area, Pro Control Studio generates the main area for operating the Controlled Devices. Additional buttons may be added and programmed as needed. The ‘Zoom’ tool on the top toolbar may be used to modify the size of the programming area.

Viewport:

The pages created by Pro Control Studio may feature a ‘Viewport’. This is a horizontally sliding panel that may contain multiple screens for various control functions. The Viewport may be edited by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Edit Viewport’.

The Viewport panels may be individually edited and selected using the panel selector at the top of the programming area.

Advanced Feature Programming:

Switch Object

To add a switch object to a page, select the switch object drawing tool from the toolbar. Using the cursor, draw the switch. Note that while the actual button can be drawn to the desired size, the toggle button graphic itself is a fixed size. Once the toggle button has been created, driver commands and feedback variables can be assigned.

Gauge Object

To add a gauge object to a page, select the gauge drawing tool from the toolbar. Using the cursor, draw the gauge on the page to the desired size. The orientation of the gauge will change depending on the size of the button. To make the gauge orientation bottom-to-top, simply draw the button tall and skinny. Gauge objects are for feedback only. You cannot place a command onto the gauge object.

Slider Object

To add a slider object to a page, select the slider drawing tool from the toolbar. Using the cursor, draw the slider on the page to the desired size. The orientation of the slider will change depending on the size of the button. To make the slider orientation bottom-to-top, simply draw the button tall and skinny. Once the slider has been created, driver commands and feedback variables can be assigned.

Scrolling List Object

To add a scrolling list object to a page, select the scrolling list object drawing tool from the toolbar. Using the cursor, draw the two-way list object on the page to the desired size. Once created, driver commands and item list feedback variables can be assigned to the list for two-way communication with compatible desired equipment. Additionally, the button text properties (text size, font, alignment) can be adjusted in the ‘Properties’ section.

Viewport

To add a Viewport to a page, select Viewport drawing tool from the toolbar. Using the cursor, draw the Viewport on the page to the desired size. Right-click on the Viewport to edit. Add buttons as desired, and use the panel selector to add additional panels to the Viewport. Multiple Viewports may be added, and multiple panels may be added to each Viewport

Downloading the File:

After programming is completed, download the completed file into the ProLink.z processor by selecting the ‘Download’ button in Pro Control Studio. This will load the ProPanel file, including graphics, into the processor.

Configuring the Apple® Device :

Start by downloading the ProPanel app from the iTunes app store. When you start the application you will see a screen with two buttons. Choose the ‘Get Started’ button. The ‘Demo Mode’ button displays an emulation of the programmed ProPanel application that may be used for demonstration to customers.

The next screen will show a list of ProLink processors that are on the LAN and are available to connect to. If you are configuring from a remote location (not on the local network), you can “Manually Configure” by selecting the ‘+’ button in the upper-right corner of the screen and typing in the Server Address, which is the DNS hostname or IP address for the location of the ProLink.z processor.

Once a server has been selected, it will provide a list of devices compatible with the hardware running the ProPanel app.

Select the desired device. The configuration will be downloaded to the device and the device will be “configured”. The ProPanel app will check-in with the server after each connection is made to determine if a new configuration is available. If a new configuration is available, it will be downloaded automatically by the ProPanel app.

Reconfiguring/Resetting the ProPanel App :

In the event that the ProPanel needs to connect to a different server (ProLink.z Processor), the configuration can be reset. Resetting the configuration will cause the ProPanel to return to the “Welcome” screen, allowing you to go through the configuration steps again. On Apple® iOS devices, the “Reconfigure” option automatically resets itself to “Off” when you go back to the ProPanel app. A customer who has ProLink.z processors in multiple homes and wishes to switch the system being controlled would use the reconfigure setting to change the ProLink.z processor that is being communicated with.

ProPanel is now ready for use!
